ELECTION TO REPLACE THE TWO OUT-GOING EC OFFICIALS March 19th 2015

By ECOT (Abduke Melka, Michael Hailu, Argaw Tilahun)

Fellow Members of the AGWSSA Dear Friends,

This is from your election committee of three(ECOT). The two stage election process has come to a close on March 18, 2015. The last Alumnus casted his vote only 15 minutes to the hour, lending some colour to conclusion of the voting process. The casting of your votes continued between March 4 and 18, 2015, with the majority of the votes being cast during the first week of the voting process.

The ECOT is pleased to note that the election process up to this moment was executed without a major hitch. This, we owe it to the support and active participation of all members of the Association in general and those alumni who have come forward during the nomination and voting stages of the election in particular. We also wish to recognize the support given to us from current and outgoing executive committee members, Milkias Teclegiorgis President and Fisseha Abebe, Vice President & Treasurer, who were at all-times available for consultations and the sharing of their experience.

The total Number of votes received at the ECOT up to the last day of the voting have been 34. The official result of the votes indicate the aggregate figures below.
1. Lelissa Daba..........................................................................29 Votes
2. Abraham Assefa..................................................................28 votes
3. Addisu Aramde...................................................................26 Votes
4. Taye Teferi...........................................................................20Votes

The Initial plan to have as many as six nominations to select from did not work, because two of our nominees withdrew their Candidacy just before the start of the voting procedure. The ECOT has continued with the election process however, because we had enough number of nominations to select from and dragging of the Election process for this reason alone, would not have added significant value to the goal we had set to ourselves at the outset.

In accordance with the results of the your votes in the forgoing, the ECOT hereby announces the three officers elected to replace the outgoing EC Members as follows:

1. Lelissa Daba (Ethiopia)

2. Abraham Assefa (Ethiopia)

3. Addisu Aramde (USA)

Message from EC.
April 30th 2015

A couple of weeks back the Executive Committee (EC) of AGWSSA had the pleasure of informing you about our Association's new officials, among whom is the new V/President, Dr. TayeTeferi. You might have also noticed that Dr. Abraham Assefa was not on the list of the new officials. The following narrative is intended to provide you with an explanation for this and to chronicle the process that the EC followed in electing the officials.

The information should have been provided when we announced the results of the election; we sincerely apologize for the oversight.

As you recall, Association members had recently cast their vote to elect three EC members to replace outgoing officials. The result of that election was as follows:
1. Lelissa Daba..........................................................................29 Votes
2. Abraham Assefa..................................................................28 votes
3. Addisu Aramde...................................................................26 Votes
4. Taye Teferi...........................................................................20 Votes

According to the above result (and considering the fact that they would remain in office longer than the other members of the EC), Lelissa, Abraham and Addisu were nominated to compete for the posts of President, V/President and Treasurer. Unfortunately, Dr. Abraham Assefa, who had received the second highest vote (28 votes), declined to serve in the EC due to excessive workload at his current place of work. We do understand the multiple responsibilities that Dr. Abraham carries and had to respect his decision. Under these circumstances, we had to request Taye, who had received 20 votes, to serve in the EC. Taye graciously accepted the invitation, and we are very thankful to him for this.

Hence, the newly officers who joined the EC are:

1. Lelissa Daba

2. Adisu Aramde

3. Taye Teferi
